Before their wedding day, Amy and Milan and I had never met in person. We did a little video chat last year and talked about all of their plans for their EPIC wedding weekend in April of 2014! They wanted to honor both of their cultural traditions so they had two full, back-to-back weddings! The weekend was packed with family, dancing, vows, and fun!
Friday night’s Sangeet, was a celebration among their families who flew in from all over the world to be with them. The evening was filled with heartfelt speeches, funny videos from friends and family that couldn’t be there, and performances by many of the bridal party and guests.
Saturday morning, bright and EARLY we were off to photograph Amy and the girls getting ready for the Hindu wedding ceremony! The preparation involved in traditional Hindu ceremonies is always a delight to witness. The bride’s red sari, the bangles all the girls wore, the mehndi with the bride and grooms names secretly tucked away for them to find later; it’s all so enchanting.
The ceremony was filled with various symbolic customs and spiritual practices. Milan arrived to Milan Banquets on a white horse, lookin’ like a king! Amy and Milan took their first seven steps together, beginning their journey through life as a married couple. Each step carried with it a vow, to create a home full of joy and laughter, to embrace each other’s families as well as their own yet to come, and most importantly ( I believe ), to forever be best friends and partners in life.
The ceremony was followed by a luncheon where we all re-booted, downloading some images, then geared up for Part II…
